reunion with my highschool babes
That day, it was raining. It was Thursday, the 27th. My plan? Get off work, rush home, change clothes, and head straight to the place. The reality? LOL, not even close.
I got off work at 5:13 PM, opened my Gojek app, and BOOM—price surge. Usually 16K, but that day? 25K. Excuse me, what?? 😠I lost all my energy right then and there. So, I did what any broke-but-determined person would do: hunted for the cheapest fare, bought a voucher (which, surprise surprise, didn’t work 🙃), and in the end, the best deal I got was 22K. Sigh.
While I was still recovering from that heartbreak, a girl asked for a hotspot. Of course, girl, I got you! But a second later, she went, "Never mind, my phone’s already dead 😊" with the saddest little smile. I wanted to help her more, but my brain was too busy stressing over my Gojek ride.
Fast forward, my Gojek finally arrived, and I hopped on. Halfway through the ride, it started drizzling. "No. Freaking. Way," I thought. "Not today, please." And then—SPUURRRLLL—sudden, heavy rain. Just my luck. We had to take cover under Jembatan Musi 6, and guess what? It was already 6 PM. Yeah, late for sure.
Long story short, I finally got home, did the fastest outfit change of my life, and was ready to leave again… but, of course, no Gojek was available. Maybe the high demand, maybe all the drivers were breaking their fast—who knows. Luckily, my mom and Cek Nanda were heading out, so I hitched a ride. Bless them.
When I arrived at Naka, I opened the door and—BAM—two of my high school friends were right there. Cue slow-motion moment. I was so happy to see them.
One was Sri, my everyday angkot buddy. And the other? Puput—my actual soulmate, my desk partner, my ride-or-die in high school. But guess what? Sri had a baby bump. I still can’t process it. With her tiny frame, she barely looked pregnant—just a slightly rounder tummy. Meanwhile, Puput was the same smiley, teehee type of girl.
We talked a lot, and suddenly, I felt like I was 16 again. Just free, laughing out loud, talking nonsense, no filter, no overthinking. Just pure fun. And man, I realized how much I missed that.
It was short-lived, though, because Puput’s husband was waiting for her. And that got me thinking—what if she wasn’t married yet? Would we still be out here, playing like we used to? Staying up till midnight? Traveling the world together? 😠But yeah… I know this is what’s best for her. And for all of us.
